Job Duties
The CNC Machining Supervisor is primarily responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the machining department, assuring either directly or through subordinate staff that all production and quality goals are met, and that the department maintains a trained, qualified staff and equipment is used to its maximum efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in quoting and determining process for running new jobs.
- Can produce product to print independently and thoroughly.
- Efficiently produce product with acceptable loss level as determined by management and with required level of quality.
- Lead machining department in achieving results required to follow production schedule and achieve on-time delivery to customer.
- Assist in reviewing and adjusting production schedule with Production Manager.
- Problem-solve situations with other machinists. Communicate problems and solutions with Production Manager.
- Identify when overtime is needed and be willing to work it if required, and ensure your team does also.
- Assist Production Manager in personnel matters, including staffing needs, employee reviews and disciplinary issues.
- Follow all inspection procedures including double check processes, filling out paperwork and communicating tolerance and quality issues with inspection.
- Provides training guidance to lower skilled machinists and trains employees on Peak SOPs.
- Manage the activities of programming, workflow planning, expediting and facilities ensuring achievement of department objectives, and effective manpower planning.
- Provide an executive overview of CNC schedule and timeliness through effective communication and project management techniques.
- Manage machining department ensuring adequate space for short and long term needs, product and employee safety and security.
- Manage operations cost reduction effort to ensure company profitability goals are achieved.
- Highest point of resolution for technical and manufacturing questions within the machining department. Determines manufacturing methodology for the most complex products with the advice and assistance of subordinate staff.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- CNC Manager acts and presents himself professionally while working on the job site.
- Ensures machinist are logging on and off jobs accurately using ERP system.
- Ensures machinists are meeting quoted times noted on job travelers. Reports job traveler discrepancies to estimator via NBNR.
- Write and submit report weekly (every Monday) to the Production Manager in all matters of importance.
- Order supplies for your department and submit to Production Manager for review.
- Always project a positive and can-do attitude when in the presence of your team members.
- Provide the leadership necessary to establish a pro-active culture in machining through the effective use of goal setting, team building, employee empowerment, and communication.
- Work with your team to create and promote a positive environment that motivates the team members to openly express their ideas and suggestions.
- Consistently displays a sense of urgency in meeting all deadlines and goals, keeping in mind that quality and timeliness are of paramount importance to management and our customers.
- Maintains safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves and work stations neat. Organize work area for orderliness at all times.
- Abides by all Company safety and health policies and procedures. Must use personal protective equipment if required.
- Follow all inspection procedures including double checks and filling out paperwork to track run times and losses.
- Aware of and conforms to ISO goals and objectives, and supports company ISO requirements.
- Aware of and actively participates in company’s continuous improvement philosophy.
- May be asked to perform other duties at a lower level or higher level of proficiency
- Follows approved work instructions.
- Be ready and willing for anything that needs to be done.

Job Requirements
- 10 year of progressively responsible positions in machining or closely related operations.
- 5 years supervisory or management level experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a highly complex mix of production and prototype manufacturing in a high pressure, quick turnaround environment while meeting stringent quality and aggressive delivery commitments.
- Working knowledge of Solidworks CAD system.
- Knowledge with Mastercam system.
- Familiarity with machining methods for complex medical and high-tech parts.
- Familiarity with the operation of Vertical and Horizontal CNC machining and turning centers.
- Knowledge in CNC controls and controllers.
- Knowledge in machine maintenance.
- Ability to provide quick and accurate estimates of machining times in support of the estimating activity.
- Expertise in the selection of tooling and the design of machining fixtures.
- “Lean” and/or Six Sigma techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Independent, detail-oriented, creative, tenacious, and flexibility are essential characteristics.
- Extensive experience with, and knowledge of, multiple material types including Aluminum, Mild Steel, Tool Steel, Stainless Steel and Plastics.
- “Confident” ability to communicate verbally in English, to understand technical direction on blueprints, travelers, and computer screens in English, and to create understandable written job status report for shift changes.
- 5 years supervisory or management level experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a highly complex mix of production and prototype manufacturing in a high pressure, quick turnaround environment while meeting stringent quality and aggressive delivery commitments.
