Job Duties
Estimates labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on request for quote (RFQ) data submitted by prospective customers. Analyzes specifications including sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts, and calculates production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data. Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors. Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor. Prepares and maintains historical cost data. Creates cost models for cost estimating elements.
Job Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Manages customer expectations through communication of capabilities, capacities, lead times and quotation offers.
- Directs less senior staff
- Processes approved NBNRs (Need Before Next Run)
- Reviews and comprehends scope of work (SOW), customer requirements, specifications and standards, customer terms and conditions to identify required resources to satisfy the project requirements.
- Reviews SOW data to prepare and estimate preliminary manufacturing plans consisting of labor operations, material requirements, subcontracted services and all other cost associated with the SOW.
- Communicates with customer to obtain clarification of all poorly defined and unclear requirements.
- Acquires and applies costs of materials and subcontracted operations through direct contact with vendors or communicating pricing support needs to internal resources.
- Identifies and accounts for poorly defined requirements and high-risk activities and processes.
- Confers with internal supporting resources (manufacturing, procurement, scheduling, quality control programming and engineering) to determine and review the project requirements.
- Generates detailed estimates of cost for the labor, materials, special processes, testing, inspection and documentation requirements needed to perform the SOW.
- Responsible for maintaining and improving all factory processes and related metrics. Production Efficiency, cycle times, capacity, capabilities and others as needed.
- Provides leadership to technical personnel to ensure ongoing product & process improvements to meet quality and production goals.
- Provides direction to technical support as required for critical process and product issues.
- Ability to design processes, evaluate results and drive solutions to improve the processes.
- Works closely with production and support teams as required.
- Develop and support new manufacturing processes.
- Analyze system requirements, capacity, cost, and customer needs to determine feasibility of a project and development plan.
- Metrics driven and a solid decision maker.
- Support continuous improvement through cost engineering techniques and processes, identifying inefficiencies and cost optimization opportunities.
- Analyze and identify key areas of improvement and apply cost estimation techniques to drive cost reductions and aid operational processes and efficiency
- Prepares detailed quotation documentation for submittal to the customer. Describes in detail the inclusions, substitutions and exclusions of the offer.
- Reviews all second run jobs to verify that SOW and run times are accurate and informs Program Manager of any changes.
- Communicates with assigned Program Manager and participates in project kick-off meetings to communicate quoted SOW, initial planning and all other pertinent data on complex projects.
- Consistently displays a sense of urgency in meeting all deadlines and goals, keeping in mind that quality and timeliness are of paramount importance to management and our customers.
- Maintains safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves and work stations neat. Organize work area for orderliness at all times.
- Abides by all Company safety and health policies and procedures. Must use personal protective equipment if required.
- Follow all inspection procedures including double checks and filling out paperwork to track run times and losses.
- Aware of and conforms to ISO goals and objectives, and supports company ISO requirements.
- Aware of and actively participates in company’s continuous improvement philosophy.
- May be asked to perform other duties at a lower level or higher level of proficiency
- Follows approved work instructions.
- Be ready and willing for anything that needs to be done.

- Being punctual and good attendance is required.
